Romantic Getaway – Olive Beach

When someone mentions Greece, do you know the first thing that pops up in my mind? No, it’s not the god like handsome men and no it’s not the beaches either but it’s the colour white.

I am not a big fan of white but I sure do love the aura this colour gives out. Serenity, this is what I relate the colour white to. Yes, so serene and elegant, that’s why I like places which have this Greek like ambience, instils a sense of peace within, don’t you think?

Olive Beach is just one of those restaurants which brags about its beach and Greek like ambience. Considered to be one of the most romantic restaurants in the city and known for serving some of the finest European delicacies, Olive Beach definitely falls under the category of ‘must visit restaurants’.

Ambience

House being converted into a restaurant. This, isn’t something new in Bangalore and Olive beach sure has put in a lot of effort to convert this house into a beautiful beach setting. White walls everywhere gives the place a very Greek like ambience and the white stones spread around the floor as soon as you step in, fountain in a corner and dim lights, provides you with a hypnotizing ambience. If you are one of those people who have always wished to have a romantic date on a beach, Olive Beach is the place for you.

Moreover if you are heading here for a date I would recommend going here for dinner than lunch, in order to get the best of the ambience. If you ask me, this place is like a breadth of fresh air, like you are in a new place altogether.

Food

I have repeatedly said this and I say it again, no matter how lovely a restaurant looks if the food isn’t up to the mark, everything just comes crashing down. When you mention Olive beach, one always gets to hear good things about this place especially when it comes to food. This, was the reason why I wanted to dine here, I just had to know what is so special about this place apart from its ambience.

The alcohol menu here is extensive and when I say extensive trust me it’s an understatement. You would be perplexed on what to have. Sometimes so much of variety can lead to a lot of confusion especially when it comes to drinks. However, on that particular day we weren’t really in a mood to delight ourselves with wine or cocktails but we were in a mood to lend our taste buds to relish some appetizing food.
What I really liked about this place when it comes to their food is the presentation. They sure do know how to make a dish look exotic. It’s more of a feast for the eyes than to the tongue.

Baked Brie, the starter that we ordered for was one such dish which was dressed with fruits. The manner in which the dish was served was oh so alluring to the eyes that every time I took a bite, it was like undressing the dish layer by layer. Looks apart, the brie was absolutely delicious! The brie had cheese stuffed in it and with every bite the flavour of cheese would burst out in your mouth. If you are a sucker for cheese like me, you are bound to love this one! Apart from the cheese the pickled grapes used as a dressing was lovely. Gives this tingling feeling to your taste buds!
This Brie can get quite messy to eat as with every bite the is cheese oozing out, but honestly if something tastes so good it doesn’t really matter if it’s messy to eat or not.

Get's your mouth watering, doesn't it?

Prior to the Brie, we were served with breads and parmesan cheese. Trust me when I say this, I gobbled up the cheese, relished it till its last bite. (Yeah, now you know how much I love cheese :P)

The smoked tomato soup was another highlight. With strong flavours of basil, the soup was different from the ones you generally get at other places. One look at it and it gives you a feeling that the soup is more like tomato curry because of it’s thickness but the taste of it will erase all doubts you have regarding that.
Something that caught my eye was the cutlery used. I have this fascination for stylish cutlery and Olive Beach makes use of some of the most sophisticated cutlery you can come across. Only if I could own all that cutlery! *Sigh*

Smoked tomato soup!

Moving onto the main course, we ordered for the English classic fish and chips and pasta. Fish and chips were served with potato wedges and salad which was more than scrumptious. Crisp and bang on when it comes to taste, if you love this old classic dish, you must have it here.

The Ol' Englsh Classic - Fish and Chips

The penne in confit of tomatoes and roasted pepper was quite a delight. However, I preferred the fish and chips over this.

Don't you just want to grab a bite of this pasta?

Lastly the Chocolate Caramel Fondant graced our table. You know the thing about desserts? The always look good and enticing. No matter how full my stomach is, I will always have place to stuff that good lookin’ dessert. They weren’t stingy with their caramel and the chocolate cake was probably just what I needed to end this meal.

Service and Pricing

Impeccable service!
Pricing is well on the expensive side. However they do have some lunch offers priced at 599/- per head. Works out a lot cheaper this way! If you ask me, I would say it’s worth it to spend a bomb here.

Oh also, if it’s a special night you are planning on celebrating and you want certain dishes to be made, you can call them up and they will have an entire menu planned up which suits your requirement. How awesome is that? :D

Do I recommend this place? Definitely! A one-time visit here is a must. Over here you don’t need alcohol to get high because the food does that job really well.

Wining and Dining at ‘The Glass House – Deli Restro Bar’

What are the two components which are highly essential for a successful romantic date? Ambience and food! If these two score high, the rest is taken care of, and trust me when I say this! Ambience sets the mood for an evening of romance and the food is what will make this date a more memorable one. Agreed?

The city houses a number of romantic restaurants but it is never enough. It’s like candy, you know? The more you get, the more you want. The latest addition to this category is the Glass House – Deli Bistro Bar. This restaurant finds it’s dwelling on a quite lane of Lavelle road and makes sure that every passer-by has a second look at it. You know what they, dress up in a way which makes every person give you a second look? Glass house does just that and more.

Ambience

One look at this place from outside and it mesmerizes you completely. Sometimes, there are things that you just can’t get it off your mind, when it comes to restaurant ambience, Glass house is a brilliant example of it. Sticking true to its name, the restaurant is built in glass and stands majestically. Spacious and hauntingly beautiful, you can’t help but fall in love with this place.

The bar section and the liquor showcase stands out, giving this place that touch of perfection. Tables are well spaced and there is outdoor, indoor and rooftop seating. I would recommend the indoor or rooftop seating so that you can soak in the sophistication this place has to offer. When it comes to ambience, Glass house stand apart and stands at the top.

Food

Awe struck by the ambience, I took my time going through the menu. Added to that, the menu here is an extensive one, liquor and food. They largely serve continental food; however you do get breakfasts and Italian too. If you aren’t in a mood to drink, you can have the smoothie, juice or other beverages such as tea and coffee. They offer a variety when it comes to beverages!

There are limited options for vegetarians however, since the menu is extensive in terms of different cuisines they offer, veggies won’t have a problem finding something suiting their taste buds. Oh and how can I forget the desserts! Looking at the options they offer if you are a sucker for desserts you might as well just settle for having those for lunch/dinner, no kidding here!

We started our extravagant dining experience by ordering the Fratelli wine, red and white. As we sipped on our sparkling fermented grape juice we were served with breads and nuts which we thoroughly enjoyed munching on until our appetizers arrived.

The lovely Fratelli wine - Red and White

Bread and nuts to start of the meal

Spiced baby potatoes and Bruschetta trio was what we ordered for. Unlike what you find in many places, the bruschetta here was different. Served on a tiny squared bread which one can have it in a single bite, they were dressed with toppings ranging from cherry tomatoes, olives, basil, wild mushrooms to marinated antichoke. If you are looking forward to try something different from the usual bruschetta then this is the one you should be getting your taste buds to try on. Adding to the scrumptious-ness of these bruschetta were the spiced baby potatoes which gave our taste buds a much required jolly ride. The taste of garlic was prominent so if you detest the flavour of this herb you should probably avoid this one.

For the potato lover, spiced baby potatoes!

Main course was inaugurated with sandwich and pasta. What made our dining experience more enjoyable was the wine. A sip of wine and a bite of some good food, who needs cheesy conversations when you can find romance in your food. Am I right or am I right?
The wine tomatoes and brie sandwich was a lip-smacking piece of bread, I tell you! Heavy on the tummy and yummy on the tongue, even if you are full you would want to stuff this one.

Yummy in the tummy sandwich

The pasta on other hand was penne arriabatta cooked with seasonal vegetables and cherry tomatoes was disappointing. Disappointing because it lacked taste, any kind of taste! I might as well say that it was pretty tasteless.

The only part of the meal which was disappointing - Penne Arriabatta

But, the good news was that in order to erase our disappointment we treated ourselves with desserts. Mango mousse and raspberry macaroon! This was like icing on the cake. I know my craving was satisfied as I relished the macaroon and the mousse. That’s what a dessert should do. It’s no good if it can’t satisfy that aching crave for some delightful confectionary.

Mango Mousse, for the mango lovers!

Service and Pricing

Attentive and friendly is how I would like to describe their service. Attentive to all your needs and a friendly smile is all you need to make your customer happy.

The place is pricey, but it’s worth it. I don’t have a problem spending a bomb if the place excels in every aspect – Ambience, food and service. When it comes to value for money, this restaurant occupies its place somewhere on top of the list.

Glass house is like an escape from reality. It takes you into a different world with the kind of ambience it provides and the food makes sure that you have a hell of a time. Isn’t this something all foodies want?
That said, let me tell you something, yes Glass House is definitely one of the romantic restaurants the couples ought to visit but it’s just not meant for them. If you are looking to spend some quality time with your family or friends at a place which offers classy ambience and some delectable food, Glass House, Deli Restro Bar is one of the restaurants you should definitely consider.
